'62 P-BASS replica

Hi,

Up for sale is my superb '62 P-Bass replica built by my luthier to vintage specs listed as follows

Body : Alder, 3-tone sunburst with Nitro finish.(USACG)
Neck : Med "C", 7,25" radius, Maple with rosewood fingerboard, clay top and side markers. (Musikraft)
Nut : 1,75", Bone
Pickups : Curtis Novak vintage handwound. Model : PB-V
Electronics : CTS 250k pots

Incredible build quality, relic job and sound. Sustain for days as you'll hear in the samples.

Price asked : 3000$ CAD + shipping. Hard shell case included.

Reason for selling is the damn tax season. It got me good this year and this is my most valuable piece of equipment.

Bass straight into Apogee One and into Logic. No compression or effects whatsoever.

Did you or a previous owner spec this bass?

Reason I ask is I'm mainly curious why the body was sourced from USCG and thr neck from Musikraft? What's the rationale?

Also, how much of the total work was done by your luthier?

I'm the original owner of this bass. My luthier ordered all the parts. My initial request was to have a left handed replica of the Funk Machine built. The first version of the bass had a USCG neck as well but I found out it wasn't to vintage specs as it wasn't 1,75" at the nut. Shortly after I came across the Musikraft website and saw they could make left handed necks with the right specs so I ordered one. It also came with SD SPB-1 pickups which I wasn't satisfied with. I learned about Curtis Novak on Talkbass. I Exchanged some emails with him and was confident he could give me what I wanted and he delivered. The pickups have something organic vintage to them. So my luthier did all the work from A to Z. He painted and finished the body and neck, reliced them along with the hardware and he put it together.

about the neck that is on it now (musikraft): when you ordered it from the factory what kind of finish (if any) did you specify? I am wondering if your luthier had to remove a factory finish and, if so, what type.

because, in some of the pics the neck looks glossy/wet and in some satin/flat.

strings: do you recall the brand & type flatwounds used in your sound sample?

what did you do with the first neck (uscg)?

and finally, aside from the vintage spec descrepancy (the nut width, etc.) what is your overall impression of the necks uscg vs. musikraft?

The Musikraft neck came with a coat of shellac. You need this if I remember well for the warranty if anything happens during shipping. I don't know if my luthier removed it or just applied the finish over it and then he reliced it. So it's glossy in the areas that are not reliced like an old neck would in the areas less played.

As for the strings, they are D'Addarios Chromes 50-105

The USACG neck was really good. I didn't have it on for long so I don't have much to say about it but it sounded and played really good.

Nice playing! Nowadays that style of bass playing would be considered WAY too busy! Great song, and great bassline... I see the most important bass add-on for R&B.... a piece of foam!
