Epiphone Jack Casady Bass!?!?

Post by bbl »

This was posted in February 2008, in another forum. I believe this gentleman is an Ephiphone employee or rep:

"BTW, Epiphone just finished developing their first lefty bass model- it's a Jack Casady lefty. I just got the first one, arrived yesterday, and it is simply awesome. Jim R. is the man. Not sure when it will be available to the public, but keep an eye out for it, beautiful instrument."

I'm considering writing a letter to Jim Rosenburg, President of Epiphone. As soon as they make more Jacks, I'm buying one or three.

If anyone else learns anything about lefty JC's, let us know!

I'd be way into getting a JC bass too! I love the sound, body size and the scale. Great bass for the price.

JC tried offering his bass in lefty in the past but for some reason it didn't work out. They were listed on his website for a while.

Get Jim Rosenburg's email and post it here and let's see if we can get a few people interested and writing him to let him know we lefties want this bass!

Count me in for one too! I contacted JC's website back when he was claiming that lefties were available, but never heard back so I assumed it never happened. This is great news IF it materializes.

Wow! I hope this is true!

If it is, I hope they offer it in both finishes as well (I want a gold one!).

Hi Andrew, check my post in the Sad Metro thread. Kevin@Sadowsky emailed me saying they won't be doing lefty Metros due to "insufficient interest".

Does anyone here have someone at Epiphone they can get the dirt on this bass from? Does anyone participate in the Epiphone forum?

With the Sadowsky falling through, I'd like to see if we could be proactive in making the JC in lefty a reality. Anyone want to help?

Got this email from John Sutherland at Gibson this morning:

"Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the email. Unfortunately, there are currently no plans of making a left handed configuration of the Jack Casady bass. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Wow. I'm feeling defeated. There are too many great luthiers out there. It's a waste of time bothering with a company that doesn't give a damn about lefties.

Why would Jim Rosenburg make a lefty if there are no plans for production?

I love Jack Casady, though. It may not make a difference, but I'll mention this when I see him at FPR.

At least Guild gets it. Heck, everyone else does. Except Gibson and Sadowsky.

It doesn't surprise me, given Gibson's arrogance and complete lack of support for lefties. It left me wondering why they'd even consider the Casady bass lefty when they don't even offer their best selling bass, the T-Bird, lefty either.

Gibson blows, man. I gave up on them years ago as far as getting a lefty is concerned. I'll just hold out for a Tokai TBird eventually :x

When I first posted, I had actually forgotten that Epiphone was owned by Gibson.

Forget Epiphone and forget Gibson.

If we could get a hold of the original poster to see what's going on with a lefty JC that'd be great. The thing about Epiphone is you can't contact them directly, you're redirected to the Gibson help center, and Gibson's help center isn't always the most helpful.

I have a hard time believing that Epiphone couldn't do a run of 100 lefty JC basses and not sell them easily. I have to think that if we could find the right guy at Epiphone and bend his ear to the idea of making a batch that we could make this a reality.

Sadowsky is the same as Lakland....pony up for the high $$$$ USA model or go home, lefty.

I PM'd Joel Savell, the poster who made that original comment (and the only non-Epi employee who owns a lefty JC! :D).
