Reverse Headstocks

Just wondering what all us lefties thought about reverse headstocks, especially on a Fender bass (looks, functionality, etc.). Thanks.

no specific preference for me

I asked this same question a while back (on this site or another, I don't remember now) and the response was pretty significant in the overall 'dislike' for a reverse (i.e. righty) headstock on a lefty body

I can't stand the look of it, even on basses with that intentional flopped look like the Kramer stuff.

The only bass it doesn't bother me on is a Rick, and that's because they used righty necks/headstocks just as often, if not more often, than lefty necks on their lefties. Even McCartney's bass had a righty neck.

I think for me it's that it reminds me of having to play righties upside-down.

I tend to like the reverse headstock because it's different, and if it's on a lefty, doesn't appear as an obvious gimmick. A reverse headstock with the Fender logo right-side up looks like a gimmick to me, especially on a righty guitar (a company that charges more for lefties, yet puts a lefty neck on a righty production guitar, is clearly doing it for as a gimmick i.e., the Hendrix guitar).

I was thinking about building a precision style bass from non-Fender parts and going with a reverse headstock. Then if I decided to make it a hobby (assembling basses), the reverse headstock could be my "gimm..." er, my "thing."

That's a 79 4001 with a reverse headstock....I like that look also.

Hey Steve aka poorlefty! Glad to see you here.

Still have the trans green Sterling. I play it on a few songs, but not much overall. Still pristine. That fretless MM tone really cuts though. I have to be better at taming this beast!

Still have that MIJ Jazz in sonic blue? That bass set off my crazy obsession with sonic blue (and I still don't have a bass in that color!).

Rickenbacker is especially annoying to me. In recent years they started making lefty necks but continued to use right handed fretboards

That is the reason I promised never to purchase a new Ric, I don't want my money going to Jim Hall.

Of course it doesn't matter now since Rickenbacker has announced that they will no longer make lefthanded instruments.

I really like the look of tele type necks upsidedown ... Other than that, I am not really a fan. I generally take things on a case by case basis, but upsidedown headstocks seem like an exception. Cheers all.

I'm in 100% agreement with pjmuck..it looks stupid, retarded, silly, obnoxious...even on righty guitars and basses that have them reversed...just too weird for me, but bought one anyway :
it DOES fit in my righty case with a little cutting of the styrofoam on the upper horn....lol

and here's a shot when I swapped my charvel necks for a couple days just to take a couple pics, play them that way and then put them back to normal...

They look a little weird, but i've got used to them and prefer having the tuners on the lower side

I'm not ripping on anyone who has a rev-head and likes it

tuners up or down that was never a factor for me, just too weird looking.

kinda like this one on the left, it's cool, just not for me and I wanted to make my cheap Charvel look like it...FAIL ( maybe it would have looked better with a fin neck? )
