It is most definately for real. I was fortunate enough to have played it at NAMM this year.

I was quite surprised at how easy it is to play. Damn near perfectly balanced when you strap it on, and the only place that was tough to play were the lowest notes of course. But methinks the two bottom strings act more like drone strings.
