I just bought an Am Std P Bass for $700 (in picture in the Photo Gallery). I am not sure I would spend as much for a Japanese one though.

That's not too bad. Most of the new MIJ Jazzes are going for over $1k from E-bay importers.
80s and later MIJs are starting to go up in price and I have been seeing the $700 territory regularly.I paid $400 for my 80s MIJ Jazz 8 years ago.

Back in my Punk days, '77-'82, I played a white '72 P-Bass with tort guard. It went thru hell, wish I still had it but I was a kid in my 20s and sold it after the band died.

I've got to say, I think that's a reasonable price. Just my personal opinion.

"- The remainder of the frets are approx. 60-70%."

This is the part that has me saying no thanks.

IMO that's just indicative. I bought my MIJ 70's RI jazz from Ishibasi and was said to have 60-70% of the frets remaining but it still plays like a charm!

Cool bass!...This price is fairly cheap actually. I own two MIJ 75 Jazzes, both bought new from Ishibashi. IMO, they are worth the money from a quality perspective as well an appearance/options. It's a damn shame Fender USA can't give us some more variety. Give us something other than Black/Sunburst with dot inlays. While I have no problem at all with these options, they have remained the same for a while now, which is why I went MIJ

I'd say, as long as it is an Alder body (and they say it is) it should sound like a P bass should sound. It definitely looks great. White Fenders with a tort guard are my favorites. It always reminds me of the 70's.

Yeah, I am scrambling to see if I can get the cash together for this. I have been desparately wanting a white p-bass (I have an antique burst currently). If I did not have to pay the shipping, this would be a no brainer. The shipping costs have me wincing a bit. I have a set of flats that just came in that I think would go wonderfully with this bass.

What's a 184R radius? Is that in millimeters? If so, that would make it a 7-1/4" radius? compared to a typical 9-1/2" MIA P. Also note the J bass nut width of 1-1/2" (40mm).

How does the MIJ PUP compare to a MIA?

yeah everyone says that theese are great basses that blow the mia standards away the the one problem people have been stating is that they have a smaller neck comparable to a jazz neck rather then a p bass neck

The neck is 1 5/8" at the nut (B neck) and feels very much like my '71 (a C neck), very comfortable to play. I wouldn't call it a Jazz Bass feel though, the J is much slimmer. I've been playing a MIM J and one of my "70's reissue P tonight; no comparison, it definitely feels and sounds like a P. I have two of these, my Capri and my Sonic; they're great! As a matter of fact I just finished playing a Ramones song with the Sonic!
