Probly the youngest lefty bassist on the site!

Post by ptbass »

I very proud of my 8 year old son and here he will be playing this 2 songs at a local event with his band. He has sat on my lap for hours reading posts and tips on playing, buying basses and the left handed bass community in general. Paul wrote and recorded his first song at six. He now can play the bass line on it. Reading the posts give me time with my son and is helping keep him involved in music. Thanks All! :D

Regards Paul

wow I could not have said it any better than the others... glad your son is learning his "natural" way, and not being forced to learn righty. ( might have something to do with dad being a lefty )
and p.s. his version of BOBD is great, and on IwannaBeSedated, I love his use of the index finger for single notes...
soon enough your gonna be finding HIM a nice EBMM for himself if he keeps playing for some more years :)...

That's awesome, dude! Even though that bass is bigger than you you've reigned it in nicely! Keep up the great work, and don't forget to thank your dad for encouraging you to pursue the joy of music. :D

although I said it in the email, I'll say it here...
wait till Paul is 15-16 after a bunch of learning years and says "Dad, can I play in a band with the over 30 crowd, there's nobody around here my age that has any talent"...lol
"sure son, just know that I'm driving you to every practice, and I'm also gonna be at every show you play"
or how about "dad, can I keep the Asat since you don't use it anymore"

as a side note, the guitarplayer here:
Image

who just turned 18 this month, started playing with us "older-boy"s as his first real band at 16. Dad brought him to every practice and every show and there never was a "teenage" incident in the year he was with us before he turned 18. He now has a nice band of his own age where he lives, but we asked him to do the HRC show a few weeks ago because our guitarist AND DRUMMER were out of town ( the drummer in the background is 16 and was filling in so we didn't have to cancel ), it made them very happy and was the first time in the history of the Pitts HRC, that they closed off an under-21 section so all their friends could get in.... :)

Totally cool! I am striving to convey my musical interest to my 6 yrs old son. He is starting with Piano and learning to read music. Jamming with dad is something I would have loved when I was a kid. Great bass playing! Good job!

PT's first attempt at playing and singing in public "Soul Sister" by Train. This is at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, NJ. It was his idea to start playing prior to the second verse like the actual song.

Man, I was blown away by the raw talent. Hang in there.

I was 12 before I ever picked up a cheap acoustic guitar, but I was playing in bars and clubs at 14. Never stopped. Worked my way through college and grad school and still picking three times a month even now.

as long as you don't turn into a Joe Jackson and beat the kids like he did when he found out his boys had talent :):)

Of course in a couple years if someone says they want your son to be part of a "whatever" event and the take home is 100grand...well I dunno then... Time to get out the belt ---

Great job, Paul! You're fast becoming a bassist in demand around the area. And you've already done more gigs than I have in the past year.
