A little clip of The Bullfight

Post by Jeroen »

Our guitarist / pianist brought his Korg multitrack harddisk recorder along at our most recent gig and connected it to the auxiliary output of the FOH-table. Sounds better and more balanced than I expected! I just wish we used an ambient mic too though, to capture more of that live-feel and maybe a bit more of the electric guitar.

Our singer lost the words in his first sentence, but otherwise I'm quite happy with this recording!

I'm playing my '83 Ibanez MC924 through my EBS HD350 and EBS Proline 410 here, with the balance pot a bit towards the neck and the EQ on both the bass and the amp flat.

Cool song - great lyrics! Very well recorded for a live show. Are the visuals a typical gig in the Netherlands for you guys?

Very cool Jeroen!
I watched several of your other vids and I really dig your band.
There are some great shots of you with your Jazz in this one:

I think we were spoiled quite badly here :)

This was recorded at Het Paard van Troje (translates to 'The Trojan Horse'), which is one of the Dutch top clubs, and hosts a lot of high profile international acts. They have three rooms: a big one, a smaller one and a little bar with a very little stage. We played in the smaller one, and we have played the bar in the past.

We were very lucky to be invited as a warm-up for friends of ours, The Mirror Conspiracy, who play a very cool mixture of jazz, dub and lounge with even some funk influences. They were one of the nominees for an Edison, a prestiguous award. We share the same violinist.

I'm not sure what a typical gig in the Netherlands for us would look like. We are fairly selective when it comes to accepting gigs, we aim mostly at the club circuit and would love to do some festival gigs too. We've played in bars in the past, and youth centers, but most of us don't really feel at home there because we often feel like little more than musical wallpaper there. With some very nice exceptions though! I personally enjoy playing in bars a lot, because you get to address a whole new crowd who aren't necesserily there to see us but who may like our music, and I like the atmosphere.

This sunday afternoon, we'll be playing an acoustic gig in someones livingroom for an organization called Live In Your Livingroom, where regular people can offer their livingroom as a concert hall. Usually the audience is limited to a maximum number of 35 people, and the organization handles the reservations and sales. We're really looking forward to it, our music lends itself perfectly for this kind of intimate gigs.

So to sum things up, I think we were a bit spoiled at this particular gig :D

Great recording for a 2 track mix right from the board.

Sounds to me like maybe your singer is influenced by Leonard Cohen <s.w.a.g.>?

You're the first one to ask me, actually :)
Most people tend to compare us (and mostly our singer) to Nick Cave.
But we all listen to Leonard Cohen regularly, so you may very well be right :)

I don't know who Nick Cave is but I thought I detected a few Morrisonisims in his style. :ugeek:
