How do these differ from the L1000?

Re: G+L Climax
They're 1000 times rarer. That's either my old one (I don't think it is) or the 2nd one I've seen, ever. I bought mine new in '94, and it was that color, but I remember mine as having a rosewood board. I expected that bass to sound like my '80 Stingray, and it severely disappointed me. But it was beautiful to look at. They had an interesting neck joint:

The Climax was active, while the L1000 was passive, IIRC. My Climax had the thin neck like an ASAT, and I definitely liked that.

It also looks like the PUP placement differed from the L1000 in that it was closer to the bridge like a "Ray, whereas the L1000 has one in the P "sweet spot".
Eh, I'll stick with my 'Ray.

Despite what I said, if it stays close to $200, I think it's a steal. Mine was easily the best playing G&L I ever picked up. Just don't expect it to sound like a pre-EB 'Ray....hell, it probably did have a P-bass tone about it; remember, I'm not a fan of the P-bass sound.
