Just picked up this righty bass. I'm going to convert it for my own use.
Does anybody recognize the neck build? The headstock is actually
angled forward and has two string retainers. The neck at the heel is
also weird in that it curves. The headstock is actually broken - the bottom
piece of wood must have broken off, so no logo, and nothing at the heel.
It seems like a good quality Japanese bass - I have other photos if you want to see.
It's a P-bass body with veneers on top and bottom.
Thanks!
pete

Can you post a picture of the front and rear of the headstock too? Even though the bit with the logo is broken off, it might tell us something
The angle of the heel is indeed interesting, I've never seen that before. Does the neck pocket of the body match the angle, or is there just open space?

The body is actually shaped to that neck profile. Talk about taking my time to post a response.
I finally did some work on this bass today, cleaned it up. There's nothing that has a name anywhere
on this bass - the pickguard, electronics and PU are not original. But it plays very nice. I don't have
an E string for it yet. It feels very Ibanezish. That's solid wood - not a veneer sandwich.

I had an old no-name jap bass that had the body routed to fit the neck..indeed curved end with a pocket to match.

however this one was plywood

Strange!
Is the headstock genuinely broken, or has a glue joint come loose?

It was broken of like that when I inherited it. They also "fixed" it by sanding the edges and clear-coating it.
I may fix it myself because I don't like the way it looks.

Looks like a P or J bass neck that was just cut off. Looks nasty IMHO.
Being a lefty is like being a diabetic kid in a candy store. So many incredible things, but you cant touch any of it
I play an F bass BN5 (soon to be BN7) and a Conklin GT7 7 string.

It reminds me of a Fender Performer Bass.
