Dressed up The SR5

Post by Matt R. »

New pearloid pickguard from Ernie Ball. The finish and grain is so deep you could dive in it and swim, but it had a shitty matte white guard (don't get me wrong it was still a stunner). Check out before and after:

After:

The new look also helps fill the void that the Hofner left. I had to sell it to get this one :(

Definitely an improvement. The "toilet seat" pearloid cream guard is one of the things that sold me on my Sterling. :D

The lighting in my house stinks. Wish the pix did it justice

I like after. Love pearloid but only on some finishes does it look good. The SR5 looks GREAT!

Thanks I agree. I'm usually anti-pearloid except for this case (and my Hofner :( )

usually the TB'ers get all defensive when you say pearl on SB looks funny, and most do on their "HOLY-ER THAN THOU Fenders" but on that one, it actually looks "normal" and way better than plain white.

great mod to ADD to the cool look that the thing has to begin with...

just the running joke about pickguard colors on the things, god 8000 threads stating the same thing over and over, "should I change the perloid to tort", and "will my p-bass look better on stage if I change it" topics....

some look nice with tort, some look nice with perloid, but in the end, it is not us who have to live with it, it is the owner who eventually says what it should look like.

none of my p or p/j basses have guards so I'm not mixed in the "what guard looks better" realm :)

I did the exact same thing to my SR5 (Exact same color and all!), and I love it. I also put a black pearloid on my black SR5 and it spices it up quite a bit.
