How is your bass strung?
Re: How is your bass strung?
Low E on top for me... although I can make my way around pretty well the other way due to necessity.

E on the top. FOM makes a good point about being able to follow right-handed guitar players well. I feel like I have the same advantage. Of course, like most lefties I can play upside down but prefer not to.

Having played upside-down since the mid 70s, I have no problem following a righty guitarists fret hand.reynoldbot wrote:E on the top. Re: How is your bass strung?
It's second nature for me to watch right handed guitar and bass players - like looking in a mirror. What's interesting to me is when I tell a right handed player to watch me as if they are looking in a mirror, and they have a hard time, because they're so used to watching other right handers!fivebass52 wrote:fivebass52 wrote:The count now stands at -

E/B on the bottom. But for the last 4-5 yrs, all 4 bangers are strung BEAD. I really havent missed the g string.

Too easy. Let the innuendos begin...BrickBatMansion wrote:I really havent missed the g string.

Re: How is your bass strung?
Standard... E on top...
Re: How is your bass strung?
B on the top since I play mostly 5 bangers. BDADG, G on the bottom because a G string belongs on the bottom.
But guitars I have to play with the low E on the bottom, I learned all the basic chords with a righty guitar. I can play lead pretty well too but must be righty style.
So I guess I fall in the E on the top bass camp anyway.

Re: How is your bass strung?
E on the Bottom . I'm right handed and was playing alot of trumpet in 7th grade - felt normal to have my main digits on the fretboard. didnt switch the strings - maybe should have but hey - it works. i like the concept of lower strings to the ground make the lower notes - like carmine said - it makes sense at least graphicly....
Re: How is your bass strung?
I'm the same way...flipped righties for years and then realized why change? Well years later I can play E on top because once you learn the neck it is not hard to transpose patterns but don't usually because I have all my lefty basses Except for one strung G on top, and all the righty basses in my collection don't have to be touched.
I also agree that in logic terms, it is more logical like a piano to go UP the strings to go UP in notes
here's a couple:

I am also privileged enough to be in a band with an excellent lefty guitar who also likes Charvel/Jackson guitars !!! First band with 2 leftys in all my years of playing.

and here's one with me playing my righty Kramer:

Re: How is your bass strung?
I only realized the value of an inverted strung bass when I was at a show and the band before us had a righty bassplayer who stepped on his cord and broke his input jack while they were doing the sound check before they went on stage, and he asked if I had brought one of my righty basses as a backup because I usually do. I didn't but I told him to flip my lefty and play it....first he said "I can't" but then realized it was E on top for him. He did and was so grateful he gave me 20 bucks at the end of the show for "rental"....lol !!!
