Every time I see a MIM Fender with the finish sanded off I imagine what the looks on their faces were when they found out that a sunburst MIM body that looks like a 1-piece is in fact a 3- or more-piece with poorly matching pieces and a veneer slapped to the front and back. Nothing wrong with that tonally and construction-wise, but when you're thinking of sanding it down and applying a natural finish or any other transparent finish, it must be very disappointing.

Cool find, and a great price.

Looks like in this case the body is a nice piece of wood! One question - what is the round hole above the control rout for?

IIRC, I think that's where they hang the body when spraying. Means you can't do a Jaco & lose the pickguard on MIM J's but I've never owned or seen any MIJs with that ugly sphincter in the middle like that. Way to spoil a bass IMO, but I prefer the pickguard-less look. BTW Matt, I love that white J in your pic, care to share its story (again?). Thnx

The bass in my avatar is my '74 Jazz. All original, bought it in 2004. Best sounding and playing bass I've ever laid hands on.

Just got this bass today. Neck feels really nice. I'll put it on the sage green body I bought and save the stripped body for when I decide what to do with the finish.

Ha. Yes but I got it all for $136 shipped. So I dunno. Worth it for a project I think.

Still worth it for the total price, but by now we all know UPS Ground shipping these days is about $12-$20. Just wonder sometimes where seller come up with their pricing. Although, if it's packed well, and insured, even then, it should only be about $30-$40? You still got a good deal though.... looking forward to the transformation!
