This may be a dumb question, but can a fanned fret neck be strung inverted? Would I still be able to intonate it properly? Do any other obvious issues pop out to you?

I really like the Ibanez EHB, but the only model that they offer left handed is the one with the fanned frets, and I play with the strings upside down (Low B/E string on the bottom.)

Does anyone know of this will be workable?

Thanks!

I suppose it is possible, but, this would defeat the purpose of the fanned-frets.

The idea is to give the lower strings a longer scale to help the lower notes sound more clear. You would be shortening the scale of those, making them sound darker and more muddy.

You would also have the reverse issue with the higher strings: they would be of a very long scale and therefore might sound overly bright.

You might even have issues finding string gauges that will work for it.

Also, the nut would have to be replaced, but that isn’t really a problem.

That’s kind of what I thought, but I was hoping I was wrong given that it’s only one inch on each side of a regular 34” scale.

I really wish Ibanez would release the EHB with the regular neck.

Thanks for the responses.
