Post subject:  Interesting turn of events

I bought a used Sire (MM 5, metallic red) a couple of years ago for about $300 delivered. I have no complaints about it, but I found that I always leave it on passive. I honestly thought about offering it up here to see if anyone was interested.

But, tonight I had an outdoor gig, on the lake at a restaurant/marina. All tables are outdoors, and there is a "shed" built off to the side for a bandstand. Very hot today, very humid always (it is Louisiana, after all). I took my Carvin, as usual, but I grabbed the Sire, too, just to get a little playing time, if I decided to sell her. After unloading equipment, hooking up p.a./subs, etc., I was spent. Everyone complained about the strings sticking more than usual because of the temperature, humidity, and just plain sweat. Even the neck was sticky. After two sets fighting the Carvin (unfinished body and neck, or "unsealed" - I have to rub her with oil from time to time), I grabbed the Sire. Finished body, finished neck. I played the final two sets with her, and I could tell the difference from the first song.

I believe I have changed my mind and will keep her after all.

I love it when our less expensive instruments teach us the old book cover lesson again.

Of all the Strats and Teles I've had, I'm most in love with the feel and sound of one I put together from a worn out and stained neck and a sparkling Player body. Ugly maybe, but it's my number one single coil.

I imagine that those Sires kick some major hiney.
