Congrats !!! Is that a Team or a Master Built ?

It's quite hard for me (and my dealer as well ) to get a feeling what makes them to say "this order has to be a Team or a Master Built" ... my Dealer had special orders what they would have thought to become a Master Built but Fender built as a Team Built and to other way like simple Requests became Master Builts...

It's quite hard for me (and my dealer as well ) to get a feeling what makes them to say "this order has to be a Team or a Master Built" ... my Dealer had special orders what they would have thought to become a Master Built but Fender built as a Team Built and to other way like simple Requests became Master Builts...

Sounds killer, but to my ears this layout tends to be a little less mid-rangy than the VVT layout.

I wonder if that is because of the way it is wired. I believe that to have two volume knobs working independently requires the pots to be in the signal path, unlike a master volume.
If someone knows any different, I would appreciate the information!

So Matt, you say Concentric Knobs... are those stacked pots... which means, Volume/Bass-Treble sweep?

Each pickup has its own volume & tone. Tone on bottom, volume on top.

It's hard to say without seeing a wiring diagram but I have a 62 Fender Jazz re-issue with stacked knobs and they use a summing resister that isolates each pickup and let's be honest if you add resistance to a passive bass you will lose signal. However in the 60's when Fender did away with stacked knobs the amplifiers were much different. I find when I use my stacked knobbed bass I generally change the setting on the bass amp and it gives me an amazing sound. Here is a great topic on this subject.

At the end of the day I have a bunch of basses and try to use each one for what it is worth. I never try to make my Ric sound like a Fender. After reading you post I realized I always use my Stacked Knob Fender when I want a more classic fuller but softer sound (less punch). This works when I am recording at home but when I am playing out I use this bass for more "Oldies" type gigs.

True about the resistors. Mine happens to not have them, which I think is how Fender generally does the stack knob reissues. I think my ears just need to adjust a little. I’m in no hurry to change out the controls though. I can see it happening, but I’m gonna live with this layout for a minute.
I’m aiming for this to be my main bass, so I want to make sure I’m totally comfortable with the tone. It sounds (and plays) amazingly as is. I’m just used to a more aggressive sound I guess.

Does your quote from Fender says what the Ohm-age is for each knob? If they are 'non-standard' values, i.e. not 250 or 500K, that would have an impact as well [I can't imagine the Fender C.S. trying to source odd ball pots, but who knows eh?]. and are they true tapered lefty pots as well?

Don’t know the ohms. I had them install a righty harness so it would work correctly

Well, maybe this Bass would have been a Team Built at another request (ok, it has an Ash body...maybe that was my unreal request hahaha)... that is what's confusing me ... but the waiting time was exactly 8 months (in 2009) and the deal was pretty good on that Bass too...I've inherited some money at that time and have ordered two Basses at the same time (the other was a Team Built 57' PBass which came after 2 months but wasn't a keeper) so I got a pretty big discount on my basses and paied 1500,- Euros under Listprice... - lucky me at that time
