That body looks suspicious. Looks like ash with a sunburst? Rare. Also, 1978 was heavy-poly times - the arm wear makes is look like a nitro finish. . . Maybe it's a refinished ash body in nitro?

My '78 Precision has similar wear. It's definitely heavy poly too. Was probably someone's main axe and they played the shit out of it.

My thoughts exactly. Never seen an ash sunburst '78 before...until I googled it and came up with this:

http://www.gbase.com/gear/fender-jazz-b ... 8-sunburst

I have seen lots of sunburst ash Strats, however.

I'd bid on this but the seller doesn't allow Canuks to bid on his auctions because he won't ship to Canada. :|

This bass should go into a book as an example of how to correctly relic an instrument.

Can one of you fine USA citizens message the seller to see if they'll let a Canuk place a bid?

Just tried... it doesn't let me send a question: " Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing."

very weird.

Doesn't he have zero sellers feedback as well? He lives about 1hr and half from me but I am not planning on traveling that way unfortunately.

No bids on this one so far. Why the skepticism?

That finish cracking on the skunk stripe could be more than cosmetic. I've seen a truss rod start to force it's way out of the back of the neck on a P bass that age.

Oh, really? On my '75 P-Bass there's similar finish cracking on the skunk stripe, though much less than on that '78 Jazz.
