Ouch, indeed! I played Arni's '72 Tele Bass and it rocks. No definition whatsoever, just big, loud, thumpy lows. Those humbuckers are wickedly loud and sound very cool! I have two of them laying around for a project based on this:

It's like a bass version of the '72 Tele Deluxe guitar. The pickups I have are the type that's in the Squier Vintage Modified Precision TB.

And then there's the whole "starving to death" thing I associate with being poor too. ;)

Bridge has been replaced. Note the typical misaligned E string even with the replaced bridge. Typical Fender 70's construction issue on these, as I've got a '77 with the E string almost hanging off the fretboard as well.

Way too much of an asking price on this one too, though the same shop that sold the '71 SC Tele bass to our resident Sly3000 and I'm guessing could be talked down. These basses really do need a second PUP in the sweet spot or bridge position to make these basses killer, IMO, as they're just too muddy on their own (which is why so many owners routed them for 2nd PUPs back in the 70's). I own a '76 Tele bass that a previous owner had routed for a P PUP near the bridge, and dialing in the right amount of bridge PUP really gives the fat girth of these basses some improved clarity and definition. An amazing massive sound!
