Normally I would have jumped on this (I've always wanted one), but... I need to save for something else right now.

Few years back a local guitar shop offered me a killer price on a lefty 4001JG, it played nice and was in good shape but I passed. I just can't get past the "Geddy" connection.

Why can't it be ME on the other side of the bass fence - the one getting the good deal
instead of always the one giving away my basses...

Are the 4003's the ones with the 'fat' necks?

Not necessarily, depends on the year it was built. They are fatter than most 4001 necks, but there have been some nice thin ones. I'm just not sure what years though, but I'm sure you'll be able to find your answer on the Rick Resource-forum :)
I only found this thread, where necks are compared by the girth of the neck rather than the thickness and width :?

What I meant was I can't stand Rush.
And just in case you disagree, I don't really care if you love 'em. Your opinion doesn't affect mine, and vice-versa. Enjoy!

It was my understanding the redesign of the truss rod system on the 4003s necessitated the thicker necks. But is that only with girth and not thickness?
