A very nice, clean example in the finish I've been looking for...but not at this ridiculous price.

This one was mine, I put the Hipshot bridge on it
I sold it maybe 3 or 4 years ago then recently it went up on reverb for $700 if I remember and it got sold probably to the current seller.

I recall saying about 10 years ago that the 1981-85 Roadstar II was/ are my favorite passive P/J basses, and the best kept secret “Precision killers" on the used market. Over the last decade a lot more people have gotten wise to them… but that price is ridiculous.

A point of distinction for me on these Roadstar IIs though- and this is just my opinion (as well as a few other notable players)- the original version (thru 1985- maple board & headstock/ open tuners/ white pickguard) is the preferable version. I still own 4 of those originals. I’ve had several of the second gen ones like Paulo’s pass thru my hands (1986 and later- smaller lighter weight body, rosewood board, sealed tuners, black pickguard, matching headstock- I recall the Ibanez literature at the time referencing how the updates had “modernized” it ), but I sold each one fairly quickly. Side by side they just lacked the all-around feel and tone and substance of the earlier version by comparison. Still fine basses, and look very similar at a glance, but….some bit of the magic seemed to gotten lost in the transition?
