Interesting. Why have a clear pickguard when there is a rear control panel.

To stick to the classic Jazz Bass look and ergonomics (the pickguard fills up a bit of the void beneath the strings, to me it's much more comfortable with the pickguard on), but with the wood exposed. I like it, and I love the recessed knobs.
