Has anyone here had one made? Seems like I vaguely recall someone talking about a pickguard maker who could pull off a lefty.

Rarer than carb free bread.... I actually have two real Fender lefty anodized guards. One, I bought a long time ago used, from Route 66. It wasn't cheap. The other, I spotted, to my amazement- in a parts bin in a local music store, Got that one cheap, as my friend and repair client was the salesman that day. I've never seen another real lefty. What I cannot figure out, is which model P-bass Fender made with these as an option, or standard in a lefty model. Does anyone know?

Well the other simpler option would be to purchase a righty (I believe the finish on a Fender '57 guard is the same on both sides) and flip it over and either live with the non-beveled screw holes (Other than screws not being as sunken in slightly you wouldn't be able to see it) or bevel them yourself.

I've bought a 3 or 4 righty guards. All of them that I've seen are anodized on the back, but the graining isn't the same. Some look better than others, but there is a difference. Also some have other defects/ imperfections in the finish as well as permanent felt tip marker notations, so get good photos of the back before purchasing.

On the question of what lefty fender models had gold anodized guards. None thatI know of outside of custom shop models. I did buy a new old stock, but damaged Tokia 57 RI style alder body that had a true lefty guard. The damage included damage in the control area. At the time I was looking for parts to do a 59 relic build, so it was perfect for the job, and I got it for under $150 ( no PU or controls) It turned out great!

When I picked up a Japan 57 P bass I bought a righty guard and flipped it. I thought it looked great. Maybe not such a perfect finish but gave the look of being more aged. Best to look at them instore if you can and pick one. I had the shop bevel the holes on reverse side for the screw heads.

Found and ordered this cheap one. Don't have my hopes up. Free returns if it doesn't work out.

They almost look like this store from Ebay.
I did buy from the Ebay store. Only complaint
is the sharp edges around the guard.

Sorry, it fit my '98 American Standard without drilling.

Back in stock. Currently 6 left.

I'm pleased overall with mine, although I've decided to stick with the original pickguard on my 72P.

The brushed finish and color are nice, imo. The screw holes line up well on my '72, but the pg's neck pocket is just a hair too shallow, causing some friction between the guard and my neck's truss rod. Just had to push down a bit to get the pg in place, with no damage to the neck.

Of course, it wasn't designed for early 70's Ps.

I will second the good comments regarding the ones on Amazon.

I would rather have an American made one.. but no one really makes a production one, unless you pay a fair amount of cash. These Kaish/ Dopro guards are on my two Fender Japan '62 reissue p-basses. The holes lined up perfectly. Nicely made, and look great!
