It's the same Sabre that was in this thread: http://www.leftybassist.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=9960
Apparently whoever bought it for $1500 managed to remove the glitter gunk from body and headstock edges and raised the price sky high for his efforts.

Re: 75/76 P bass a bit pricey
The tuners are made in USA by Fender and they're nickel-plated, so they will oxidize and tarnish with age. In comparison, the German-made Schaller tuners Fender started using in '76 were chrome-plated so they don't age as much. I'd be more concerned about the bent G tuner and the string alignment ...

Re: Fender 76' (ish) P bass Walnut on the bay
I don't know why but I always liked the walnut finishes. But this price... Ouch!!!
Could it be a 75/76? I thought 76 they moved the logo decal to the headstock.

Re: Vintage Fender Guys - please discuss
Looked at all the ebay pictures.. where to start? The tort pickguard has the pixelated look I've seen on mid-to-late 70's Fender basses and it has thumb rest holes above the E string (used from '74). Some of the tuner screws and washers have gone AWOL, just look at the mismatched set on these ...

Re: 78 P Ebay
I was looking at that ebay ad yesterday. I don't see any major issues with this one.. the case doesn't look original, correct me if I'm wrong but I think in the 1970s Fender cases were covered in black tolex. The seller says "very heavy and solidly built" but the actual weight is not stated; mid-to ...

Re: what would a '73 p bass cost?
My P bass is a '73. Bought it about 10 years ago for $550 w case from Ludlow St. Guitars on (surprise) Ludlow St. in the east village, Manhattan.
I just wandered in looking for lefties and it was there, apparently hanging there forever, along with a left handed BC Rich green acrylic Warlock bass ...

Here are my lefty basses, L to R: 2010 Hofner Ignition, 1975 Fender P, early-80's custom ESP. The Fender is my main bass these days, fantastic tone with a beautiful chunky neck. Like many 70's Fenders this one is pretty heavy at 11.5 lbs but I'm not complaining as the tone and playability is great ...

Re: 79 Fender P
I'll try to get some lighter/sharper pics, but meantime here's my '79 P bass. Just got it for my 50th - Happy Bday to me! From what I can tell, its all original and in great shape. I play classic rock covers so the sound is amazing. I took the PU cover and thumb rest off - still deciding on the ...

Re: 79 Fender P
Interesting that CME has a '75 J for $7,500! Some pro better have owned that for that price. Wonder why such a price difference between Ps and Js from basically the same time? I don't like my J (04 MIM): besides the obvious craftsmanship issues I had to fix, the neck is too thin and too many ...

Re: 73 Fender P
This bass is also advertised for sale in the Talkbass classifieds, with a link to a photo album with more photos than in the CL ad. The body has huge non-stock routs under the pickguard, most likely it has at some point had the "billy sheehan" mod done to it (an added neck humbucker etc). 1500$ for ...

You bought that? A lefty custom colour Jazz with matching headstock from '67, that's my birth year! Please post pictures of this beauty for me to drool on... I wish I had won in the lotto so I could buy that bass...Yves Carbonne wrote:Will arrive home soon...

Re: Tune Basses?....
I've seen and tried one lefty Tune bass in the late 1980's in a music store here in Helsinki, Finland. It was a 4-string fretless with pink finish. There can't be too many of those around.. anyway, didn't like it, so back on the shelf it went. I have no idea where it is now.

Re: Jazz bass
Threaded bridge saddles? In the 1970's Fender bass bridges had barrel-style saddles with a single groove. The headstock logo looks strange to me, too. Too much gold in the Fender logo outline and that model name, all early- to mid-70's lefty Fender basses I've seen in person or in photos have had ...

Re: '70's Fender Basses...
I have limited experience with 70's Fender basses. My current main bass is a '75 P-Bass with a really heavy ash body and chunky maple neck = 11,5 lbs. That's boat anchor territory, I know, but I can live with the weight because it just sounds and feels so good: huge sustain (especially in the lowest ...

Re: 78 Jazz bass
Oh, really? On my '75 P-Bass there's similar finish cracking on the skunk stripe, though much less than on that '78 Jazz.Marc40a wrote:That finish cracking on the skunk stripe could be more than cosmetic. I've seen a truss rod start to force it's way out of the back of the neck on a P bass that age.
