Re: Couple Used Gibson's Bass at Southpaw

They have two used Le Pauls, too, for $1699 each.

Re: Unicorn Alert 1968 Gibson EB-2D

What is the neck profile like on these? Thin and narrow, like a late 60s EB-O? Or fat like the last re-issues of these and the re-issued Les Paul basses?

Re: Unicorn Alert 1968 Gibson EB-2D

Many of my early 70s Gibson Les Pauls have the dots on both sides of the neck binding, seems correct.

Re: Fender Mustang Bass Sunburst

I'm not critiquing the bass, or the model.

As noted, I collect a lot of things and watch a lot of markets.

And it's very rare when the "entry level" of something ends up selling for more than the premium version 40 years later.

I mean, it happens, but this is sort of like - to make a somewhat ...

Re: Fender Mustang Bass Sunburst

But is the lefty premium here worth more than 2X the righty price?

Genrally, with vintage J and P basses, much higher-end, the lefty premium is like 25% max, no?

So, why pay '73 J prices for a Mustang?

A righty would pay 2X for a '73 Jazz vs. a '73 Mustang.

Seems like an odd distortion.

The ...

Re: Fender 70's Classic Custom Cherry Red Burst Left Hand Ba

Rare indeed, but more than a 2X premium vs. righty? A period left Jazz or P sells for a % change (20%, 30%), not a multiple (2.2X), right?

Does that seem like the right spread for this?

Or is the seller trying to "re-make the market" off the one $2,600 comp?

As a collector of many things, indeed ...

Re: 75 P Bass

Not 100%, but I do think I owned this in the 80s after inspecting it. Wear patterns and vintage strap lock buttons feel very familiar.

SO light. My lightest 70s Fender bass.

No routing hole.

My 78 Olympic White P is the heaviest by far, the 75 Jazzes (two) fall in between the two Ps.

Gotta ...

Re: 75 P Bass

And re-listed and re-sold to me for $810. I THINK I owned the exact bass (not this year and model) as my "go to" on stage model in the 80s. Proper tuning keys were on it then. But the pattern of paint loss seems VERY familiar.

Re: Gibson T Bird Ebay

Hiding the serial number makes total sense for $20,000+ vintage watches and guitars (see it all the time). Makes little sense for things that cost a couple thousand dollars; not enough upside in the forge :)

Great piece!

Would be a nice near twin to my "'75" (per serial number), but 4 bolt Olympic white w/ black blocks and binding.

How much of the price has to do w/ Japanese exchange rates, market and VAT? Not that it matters if you are a US buyer, but it's not like the bass is in some shop in Brooklyn.

Re: Fretless Franken-P Ebay $1150.

There is VERY little original '76 left here.

This is what I was e-mailed today:

"I changed out the whole neck---- the orig neck was fretless and maple and also had a flaw.
---- I'm pretty sure I had a new set of pick-ups put on the bass about 15 years ago
because they became corroded and started ...

Re: Gibson LP bass Ebay

The only warning I would make on these is the neck is HUGELY thick. Imagine the 1950s LP guitar profile, then scale it UP for a bass. I have a vintage EB-0 and EB3 which have very narrow nuts and neck profiles in short scale and a new T-bird that's long, but about J-bass width at the nut and a new ...
