Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
The passive electronics are done and the bass is now playable. The original vol pot was toasted and was replaced with a 500k audio. Tone pot is still the 500k linear and the tone cap is an Orange Drop .022. Also installed is the true bypass switch for the Orange Squeezer circuit (next paycheck) in ...

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Not too bad considering how it started. If anything the duct tape helped preserve the finish underneath from getting very many nicks and dings over the years. I'll be happier when the electronics are done but I'm pretty satisfied with how it is shaping up.

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Ok, i got tired of waiting on parts so I checked and remounted the original DiMarzio pickups, started what wiring I could, strung it up and setup the action and intonation. I am able to reuse the original pots and jack but I'm still replacing the active electronics with an Orange Squeezer. The 2 ...

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Yeah, I have the plate cut and fitted now and have to wait on a paycheck before ordering the electronics to tie it all together.
I also need to wander down to home depot and pick up a pair of screws to hold the control cavity plate on

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Soaked a rag in vodka to soak into the duct tape. After letting it work in, started ripping and scraping it off leaving the residue behind. Sprayed the residue with Goo Gone and let it soak in. Scraped it off with the razor and then fingernails. Went over the body with the Goo Gone again to remove ...

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
FYI: Vodka works quite well for removing surgical tape and band-aids* as well. I have several medical professionals in my family who agree.

Yes. Pittsburgh Guitars on the south side. Scott is one of the best techs I've had the pleasure to deal with. Every guitar he has touched of mine is better for it. He's cutting a new control cavity plate now (black plastic for the time being).

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Next up, I'm heading off to Pittsburgh Guitars for them to cut a new rear control cavity cover for it while I order an Orange Squeezer from GGG to replace the Alembic preamp. In the meantime, I'm going to check over the DiMarzio pickups that came in it to make sure there useable and in good shape.

Re: Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
Actually a pretty nice body underneath it all. The body has a few dings and some wear but overall is in excellent shape. Most of the wear is at the bottom of the rear "belly cut" where it meets the flat of the body.

Got started with ripping off and removing all the duct tape. We used Goo Gone, vodka and a razor.

Kramer DMZ4000 R&R (Rebuild and Revive)
A few weeks ago I accumulated a rather beat lefty Kramer bass on eBay for the wife. There was some speculation and interest here on the bass and what it's next life would be like so here's a thread with a bit of that rebirth.
The bass landed today and we were itching to get started!
Here's how it ...

Re: Kramer DMZ4001 or Fun with Duct Tape
The Kramer I played before was no heavier than my P-bass and she can handle that without too much of a problem, it's more of the size and scale than weight.
I have never even seen a lefty Musicmaster
and between me and my wife, we've been fairly thorough canvasing eBay.

Re: Kramer DMZ4001 or Fun with Duct Tape
I kinda feel like I'm trespassing a bit as I play righty but anyway...
Yeah, I was the guy who actually ended up winning the auction. I think half of the bids posted were mine :). So, if I'm a righty, what do I want with a beat to heck, old lefty Kramer? It's a shorter story but it was a long ...
